I've only been up and running for around four months and I'm starting to get enquiries about sponsored posts / sponsored links.
A couple of questions I hope people can give answers to and discuss are:
Thanks all

Permalink Reply by Paul Corbett on June 12, 2011 at 2:33pm This was the reply I got on the Global Bloggers Network from Heather Cowper which was a great help:
"You can check out my advertising rates on this page - http://www.heatheronhertra vels.com/work-with-me/advertising/ and my sponsored post rates on this page - http://www.heatheronhertravels.com/work-with-me/sponsored-posts/ - if you are price checking against other bloggers you need to consider the price vs your traffic. You can always e-mail other bloggers who have a lot of advertising to check their rates - they will normally tell you even if they don't publish it on their site. The other thing to consider is to take care not to lock yourself in to a low price when you're just starting - for instance I made the mistake in the beginning to offer advertising for 12 months, but now I only accept for up to 6 months to allow me to increase my price if my traffic goes up. The other thing is to try the supply & demand approach - once you are getting a steady flow of requests, just ease your prices up until the flow of enquiries drops off"

Permalink Reply by Mary Jo Manzanares on June 14, 2011 at 7:17am For text links (advertising in sidebar) I am familiar with LinkWorth and Adbeans. I charge on a per month basis, they're in a clearly labeled advertising widget, and both are completely managed via a plug in (so I don't have to remember to take anything down when the month expires). LinkWorth pays monthly in US Dollars; Adbeans pays in GPB and you can request payment at any time. Both companies will by in-post links: a post written by you that includes keyword + link combinations. With LinkWorth you can set your price and is, IMO, the better option of the two when it comes to pricing.
For sponsored posts (a post written by you that includes keyword + link combinations) you can also deal with LinkWorth or Adbeans, or you can deal with reps from other social media/seo companies. Some pay well, others not so well. I write sponsored posts, but have set some parameters about how I handle them. Yes, you will run the risk of a Google penalty - but since I make sure the post is a quality one (that is, without the links it is still valuable to the reader), I disclose the sponsorship (required by US law), and I limit the number of links that I will include in a post. I charge a flat fee for this type of sponsored post and it remains in my archive. They get, in essence, a permanent link - great deal for them - and I get cash to operate my business - a great deal for me.
If you want information about specific companies, rates, etc., please feel free to contact me directly. I'm happy to share info on people I've dealt with, who I trust (and don't), and help you with setting fees.

Permalink Reply by Andy Higgs on January 28, 2012 at 12:27pm Hi all,
A new WordPress plugin is under development by Yaro Starak and his friends, I learned a lot from this guy and he seems to have a good system in progress. You can read about it at Cranky ads website
Now I haven't tested it out as I don't have the traffic yet but if it does what it says on the tin it could be a very useful plugin for managing ads.
I see that this is quite an old post and that you have done very well since Paul, how did it go with your first advertisers? You have ads now, how long did you wait and what charging model did you use? I'm sure others here would be very interested to hear your story after the event.
Best regards,
Andy

Permalink Reply by Paul Corbett on February 1, 2012 at 1:25pm Hi Andy,
After around six months advertisers began approaching me. Be sure to have an amount you have in mind and have a few options. For example I offer the small 125x125 ads, large 300x250 as well as sponsoring a post which includes a banner at the top of the said post.
I have a minimum term of three months but discounts for six months.
It's manageable at the moment as I don't have many but I'll be looking for plugins to help if they become more frequent.
Hope this helps
Paul
Permalink Reply by Andy Higgs on February 1, 2012 at 1:33pm Thanks for the update Paul. What kind of traffic did you have when approaches began coming? I've had a couple of firms fishing around but am planning to wait until the 6 month point which was my original plan. Do you think it was your traffic stats that interested them, or other factors?
Cheers,
Andy
Permalink Reply by Paul Corbett on February 1, 2012 at 1:37pm I had around 2.5k uniques per month at the time and I think that was a major factor.
