About My Site
My name is Krista and I'm a 30-something Danish-Canadian lass who loves to write, travel and cook with people I love.

My first article was published when I was a 12-year-old girl living in Canada and dreaming of being a writer. Since then I've written for all sorts of projects and people from newspapers, magazines and books to prisoners, artists, and real estate agents. I've loved all of it, but my favorite things to write about are travel, food, and fascinating people.

I have been traveling and exploring for 18 years and love every amazing, embarrassing, and wonderful moment. I've traveled by train, boat, plane, foot, and car and each one has its own delights. I've lived on a boat in Russia, in an apartment in Portugal, and now make my home in beautiful Washington State, saving my pennies for my next trip.

I am a simple girl at heart, equally happy sitting around a campfire roasting marshmallows or digging in to a 5-course dinner at a Parisian hotspot. While I don't mind cooking just for me, I find it way more fun to cook for my family and friends, everyone clustered around the kitchen counter nattering away while I stir, roast, and simmer.

I love old books, classic movies, Bing Crosby, and going treasure hunting in thrift stores. Can't get enough of camping, hiking, and sitting by the ocean. And I'm never happier than when curled up in a comfy chair, coffee in hand, chatting away with a dear friend.

I look forward to getting to know you and hope we get to visit often as we share good food, great conversation, and the little things that make each of our lives worth living. :-)

How To Really Enjoy a Long Layover

Normally I hate a long layover. It doesn’t matter what airport it’s in, there are few things more tedious than wiling away hours on uncomfortable seats, eating terrible food, and wishing more than anything to be tucked into a nice warm bed or taking a hot shower.

For my recent trip to Australia, I didn’t discover until after I had purchased my steal-of-a-deal ticket that I had two long layovers at the Nadi, Fiji airport: one for 15.5 hours, the other for 17.5 hours.

Now I…

Movie Night and Amsterdam’s Floating Flower Market

It was a cold, blustery day in Amsterdam last fall as my friend Amy and I bundled up and happily wandered the streets and canals. We had a map, but rarely used it, a sketchy plan, and didn’t follow it. We’d already explored an old canal house, discovered a fabulous flea market full of all sorts of odd and marvelous treasures, and as we crossed a bustling intersection filled with people, bicycles, cars, and trams, we found the Bloemenmarkt – the world’s only floating flower market.…

Exploring the Back Streets of Cozumel

Brrr!! It’s been cold, rainy and oh-so-blustery today. I’m huddled under three quilts with a heating pad in my lap to keep me nice and toasty as the storm rages.

On such a night it pleases me no end to go back through my photo albums, looking at pictures of warm, sunny places with dear friends. So today I’m going to do just that, and drag you along on a stroll through the back streets of Cozumel, Mexico.

As much as I love stunning monuments and historical buildings like the… Continue

Comfort Food from an Old Italian Kitchen

The Villa Trotta in southern Italy is a place of beauty, respite and peace. When my friends and I stayed there last spring, one of my favorite things about it was how quickly it felt like home. A good 15-30 minute drive from the nearest town, it became our own private world.

We did our washing and hung it out to dry like proper Italians.

We washed dishes looking out of this window.…

Happy New Year!

Sharing with you a recent post:

Because travelling isn't just all about going on a roadtrip or checking off a place from the list of destinations that we would like to go to. Our lives should be treated as a huge travel escapade as well. ^_^
