Chennai – Bangalore Shatabdi chugs in to the station at 12 past five. Train was late but it didn’t matter to me as I didn’t have any urgent work to do in the morning. I’m visiting the garden city nearly after 12 years and I’m greeted with the same chill wind which I always cherish in my memory. I always long to visit the garden city because of the pleasant weather. Unlike Chennai my home town Bengaluru is always and green to me. But the traffic menace in Bengaluru frightens me more than Chennai,   When I was child I long to travel in a train that considered to be luxury to our family in those days, , So I never miss the chance to travel by train especially to Bengaluru.  Still a question may augur in your mind why train travel to Bengaluru when you can afford to travel by flight. I prefer to travel to Bengaluru by train because of the airport location and cost involved in that. My friend used to tell me that its always best to travel by train to Bengaluru – Let’s do a small calculation by travelling in a train and by flight, Chennai to Bengaluru by shatabdi takes about 5.30 hours journey, and travel to Chennai Central railway station takes another 30 minutes from my home.  Six hours for train journey to Bengaluru. Cost involved is Rs.600 for train and another Rs.250 for the cab. It takes an hour to reach the Chennai airport from my home and check-in and security check and boarding to the aircraft take another one hour, Flying time to Bengaluru is another one hour, Cab to city is another two hours ( and I always get irritated when I  get struck up in the traffic and the constant threat of honking horns ) so totally Five hours by flight and the cost involved is Rs.3000 for the flight and another Rs.450 for Chennai cab and Rs.800 for Bengaluru cab. After all the theory of travelling by train to Bengaluru makes sense time wise and cost wise. And theory also gives me an excuse to travel in train to the Garden city.
