Sometimes it´s hard to come to a decision: we´re still in the process of planning our trips during our sabbatical – it´s not that easy when you have the whole world where to go...! We know what we´d like to experience – some loneliness, feeling bored in a certain way, to have spiritual moments – but 5 months are a limited time, so we´ll not be able to go everywhere we´d like to. How did you come to a decision? Looking forward to hearing from you what helped you and inspired you to make your choice.

Comment by Lindsay Anne Williams on May 3, 2012 at 4:52am Good thing. I wish someone had told me. First time I went to the Vatican I was turned away!
Comment by Susanne und Dirk on May 2, 2012 at 9:21pm Dear Lindsay, wonderful- thank you so much for offering you help. I´ll get in touch with you once things are a bit more in order. Meanwhile I read some of your posts- lovely! I also have always a sarong with me- I would´t have seen many churches from inside without it..!
Comment by Lindsay Anne Williams on May 1, 2012 at 3:33pm Hi Susanne - For spiritual moments India is supreme - I highly recommend Mcleod Ganj in Dharamsala. It's one of my favorite places in India. I have TONS of places to recommend to you for everything. Feel free to send me an email thepeoplesquare@gmail.com. :)
Comment by Susanne und Dirk on April 30, 2012 at 5:51pm Dear Lindsay, that´s a good idea, we´ll write a list of special moments we´d like to experience. I´d love to have spiritual moments and maybe we´ll have the opportunity to be with some Indians. Because- yes, we´re still thinking about visiting Canada, especially Alberta. And from there on maybe move forward to Vancouver and then by train to LA. We´ll keep you posted and maybe you have a special place where to stay and eat in Vancouver? All best, Susanne
Comment by Lindsay Anne Williams on April 29, 2012 at 4:54am What do you like? Architecture, the outdoors, hot weather? Thinking about some of these things will help pave the way. My husband and I made a top 10 list in secrecy and then share our lists together. Places that we share in common we make a point of seeing. Are you thinking of visiting Canada? It's a huge country with lots of see. The coasts are most amazing. I'm curious to see what you decide. Do keep us posted :).
Comment by Susanne und Dirk on April 27, 2012 at 7:53pm Dear Paige, well- you mentioned something very important too - money... But couchsurfin´can be a lot of fun! A friend of mine traveled around the world in this way and he did some amazing experiences – here you can read something about his trip:

I´m very curios to read how it´ll be with the artist in the Netherlands- you know, in my "real life" I work for an art magazine...Best, Susanne
Comment by Paige Conner Totaro on April 25, 2012 at 1:25pm We are having the very same discussions in our house as we prepare for our 12-month sabbatical. On the one hand it seems like a very long time, but when we try to determine where we're going, it's overwhelming! We know we will be on a budget, though, so when we go to Europe, which is the most expensive place for us, we will only go to places where we can stay with friends or couchsurf of otherwise find free lodging. Also, we've decided we want to learn new skills while we are on the road, so whenever we find an opportunity for that, we put it on the itinerary. My husband will be spending 6 weeks working with an artist he likes in the Netherlands, for example. Have fun planning!
Paige
