Travelling solo for a walking holiday in the Azores on São Miguel

If there's one place that's really easy for a woman to travel alone in, then it's the beautiful islands of the Azores. And São Miguel – where I stayed – is renowned for having some of the best walking.

The Azores are an archipelago of nine islands about 1,500km from Portugal, out in the Atlantic Ocean. When I travelled there alone last autumn, it was the first time I'd booked a 'package' holiday on my own (other than holidaying as a single mum with a small child or my more usual independent non-package travel). But I saw an offer with Sunvil to São Miguel and went for it.
